Claims handling

A large part of our work is claims handling; dealing with overseas claims where we try to be pro-active using the experience and knowledge of our own practice, appointing and sometimes coaching a local surveyor and liaising with the claimant.

We have an extensive network of correspondents in all parts of the world, which is not part of any alliance. This is a deliberate choice which allows us to call upon the best surveyor for each case. The survey is well supervised and we play an active role in ensuring that, for example, laboratory tests and possible salvage are handled in a professional manner, thereby proactively contributing to loss mitigation.
We take all possible measures to ensure timely reporting and communication to our client. The local surveyor's fees are charged to our clients in the most transparent manner possible and are quoted separately from our fees.

We have been involved in the monitoring of rice shipments to East and particularly West Africa. Serious risks of short weight and mould can be better controlled if the situation is monitored from the moment a vessel departs until final delivery from the warehouses or terminals.
